Hi I’m Erica Thornburg, a Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (No. 12844), based in San Diego. I consider it a deep privilege to walk alongside individuals as they navigate life challenges and healing journeys. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply searching for greater clarity, I aim to provide a space that is supportive, empowering, and rooted in trust.
As a therapist, I see myself as a collaborative guide—someone who helps you uncover patterns that no longer serve you, build healthier habits, and reconnect with your strengths. I believe that lasting change comes from deep self-understanding and practical tools, and with the right support, anyone can move toward a more fulfilling and purposeful life.
My approach is integrative and tailored. I draw from evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness practices, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Strengths-Based perspectives. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy—our work together is shaped by your unique needs, preferences, and goals. I offer a compassionate, non-judgmental environment where clients can explore their experiences, develop emotional regulation skills, and build more meaningful relationships with themselves and others.
I specialize in working with adults both individually and in group settings. My areas of focus include life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, serious mental illness, stress, identity exploration (including LGBTQ+ affirming care), parent coaching, and personal Transformation.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego and my Master’s degree in Counseling from Palo Alto University. My clinical experience spans both inpatient and outpatient settings, including crisis intervention, group and individual therapy, andlong-term care. These experiences have shaped me into a flexible, grounded clinician who meets clients where they are—always with curiosity, support, and genuine care.
Clients often describe my style as collaborative, warm, and down-to-earth—with a healthy dose of humor when it’s needed most. My hope is to help you not only cope, but grow—toward healing, insight, and a life that feels aligned with who you truly are. My clinical work is supervised by a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Jennifer Piper (PSY 28988) and I’d love to work with you – contact our office today to schedule an appointment.
