Dr. Welsh is accepting new patients!
I’m so glad you’re here! Taking the step to care for your mental health is a courageous and meaningful journey, and I want to celebrate that with you.
I’m Courtney, a therapist based in San Diego, offering both in-person individual therapy sessions in La Jolla and virtual sessions for individuals across California. My passion lies in supporting young adults as they navigate life’s challenges and transitions, and in helping those who seek a deeper understanding of themselves. In our work together, I strive to create a warm and supportive space where we can openly discuss your needs and goals. I believe the therapeutic relationship can be a unique opportunity to reflect on your relationships outside of the therapy room.
Together, we’ll foster a client-centered environment where honest conversations about our work together are encouraged—my goal is to create an environment where you feel comfortable sharing what is working in therapy and what is not. I’ve never met two people who are exactly the same, so I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I tailor our treatment to your specific treatment goals, personality factors, and presenting problems. My integrative approach draws from various therapeutic modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Polyvagal Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Relational Therapy.
This means that our sessions might include getting clear about the values that you use to help navigate life, learning body-based coping skills to help calm your nervous system, challenging the thoughts that may be holding you back from the life you want to live, or exploring emotions that feel uncomfortable but hold valuable insights. It also means that there is space for us to laugh and celebrate your wins in our sessions!
As a psychologist focusing on anxiety and mood disorders, I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals on their healing journeys in diverse settings. At the UCSD Center for Healthy Eating and Activity Research, I focused on eating and body-related concerns, including Binge Eating Disorder. I’ve also provided therapy to students at Suffolk University and Suffolk Law School, helping them navigate transitions, the imposter experience, and manage mood symptoms. Further, my dissertation on shame in women with infertility and eating disorders deepened my understanding of and compassion for underrepresented populations.
My research and clinical experiences have shaped my special interests, which include helping individuals navigate sexual concerns, improve body image, create a healthy relationship with food, release themselves from the imposter syndrome cycle, explore their identity, build self-esteem, use a compassionate approach to overcome depressive symptoms and learn practical and lasting ways to cope with anxiety.
I feel deeply honored to be a therapist in San Diego, and I recognize the privilege it is to support others on their journeys. I am committed to being a lifelong learner, continually seeking out new knowledge and insights to enhance my practice and better serve my clients.Outside of the therapy room, you might find me taking cooking classes, supporting local comedians, struggling my way through Lagree pilates workouts, and connecting with nature by taking long walks on the coastline.
If you’re ready to embark on a path of self-discovery and growth, I’m here to walk alongside you. Looking forward to the possibility of working together!
